God in Human Guise

"Tell me your Christology, and I will tell you who you are."

Very true.  Reminds me of the scripture, "As a man thinks, so is he."  Yes, there is the "truth" of who and what Christ was and is.  But there is also our take on it.  Do we see Him as weak and easily taken advantage of?  Do we see Him as strong yet allowing Himself to be crucified because it was His Father's will, or (to me better yet) because it was also HIS wish, too?  Do we see Him as favoring the poor and hating the rich?  Do we see Him as narrow minded and elitist?  Any of these beliefs are also reflections of who we are, too.   Good quote... the one reason I'd call it imperfect is because as Christians we are supposed to realize our Christology is imperfect and thereby it needs to be growing and changing as Christ Himself and the Holy Spirit directs and teaches; therefore we're not stuck being "who we are", and the quote implies no change is happening.

God bless you, Eric.  Gerrie

What strikes me about the quote is the idea that our perception of Christ is so often colored by what we want Him to be rather than Who He is. Putting Him in a box to satisfy our own needs rather than simple surrender to Him.

Yes, I believe there is a deep vein of truth in that.  Thanks, fishtree.

Johnny [raises hand excitedly]: "Me first! Me first!"

Teacher: "Alright Johnny, go ahead."

Johnny: "Jesus loves me this I know; for the Bible tells me so."

Teacher: "Very well Johnny, that is quite sufficient.  You are a child."

Staub says, "So for me--I'll pursue a deeper faith the good old fashioned ways, pay attention to culture as the storyteller of the age, and join the band of those who wish to pursue God deeply and make a constructive contribution to culture as a loving, transforming presence. This timeless faith and calling will outlast fickle culture and the religion-lite that apes it."

What could I possibly add?

Amen....Jim

Yes GGD. If the teacher be true, he/she is wise; if the teacher be false, then perhaps...

Okay, it took me a long time to say so, but brilliant. Perfect quote.
